If you’re wondering where Winnipeg is, it’s a city in the heart of Canada, neighbouring Minnesota. If you’re Canadian, then you’ve definitely heard of Winnipeg and you’re wondering why you would ever want to visit that city!

Believe it or not, Winnipeg is actually a really great city with so many fun and family-friendly things to do.

To prove it, we’ve come up with a list of 9 family-friendly things you need to do when you visit Winnipeg.

 1. Children’s Museum
This unique museum is a wonderful place for kids and families to have fun, be active, learn and spark their imagination. The exhibits include an actual train, a splash water lab, arts and crafts, a tumble zone to build skyscrapers and so much more. There are also travelling exhibits to pique the interests of kids and adults alike, changing on a regular basis.

2. Indian Food
Winnipeg boasts a large Indian population and to that effect, it has a lot of great Indian restaurants. When on a trip to Winnipeg, make sure to stop at one of the 10 Best Indian Restaurants for a meal. (Psst, one of our favourites was the thaali at Clay Oven.)

3. The Forks
The Forks is one of the best parts of Winnipeg for both visitors and residents. It’s a local gem that boasts a market, local vendors and restaurants, a river, activities, live music, park, spray park, trails, quad bike rentals. You name it, it’s there. It’s a lot of fun for the whole family.

4. Assiniboine Zoo
The zoo is a year-round attraction in Winnipeg. It has since undergone a huge renovation and overall and it is really an amazing place to visit for the whole family. One of the biggest additions was the Journey to Churchill, a 10 acre exhibit designed to recreate the terrain in Churchill, Manitoba, one of the few human settlements where polar bears can still be observed in the wild.

5. Nature Playground
Kid’s love playgrounds and in my opinion, this is one of the most unique playgrounds you will ever see. Located close to the Assiniboine Zoo, it has large slides, saucer swings, a sand and water area, a rope climbing structure and so many areas where nature is combined with play.

6. Splash Dash Boat Ride
Take a Splash Dash Boat Ride Tour around Winnipeg on the river. You get to see some of the sites and landmarks of the city in a half hour tour that starts at the Forks. And come on, a boat ride is always fun!

7. Canadian Museum for Human Rights
This museum opened in September 2014 with a price tag of $351 million dollars. It was built to explore human rights on a national and global scale, in the past, present and future. If you have young kids, you can ask for a toddler-friendly version of the tour as there are some aspects that young children wouldn’t understand.

We were greeted with the word 'Hello' in 36 different languages.

8. Tinkertown
Tinker town is just outside of Winnipeg and it’s an amusement park that’s a tonne of fun! There are many fun rides for the kids (and adults,) even for the little ones that often don’t meet the height requirement in other parks.

9. The Beach
An, of course, a trip to Winnipeg is not complete without a visit to the beach. Yes, that’s right, I said the beach. You will be astonished at the amazing sands and waters the Winnipeg beaches have to offer.
