The first snowfall is always pure magic. I love the excited shouts of “it’s snowing! It’s snowing!” and the scampering of little feet to the window to look out as they begin to dream of snow angels at forts. These little glitter globes are such a cute and easy way to recreate a little of that magic. There is something so mesmerizing about watching the sparkly flakes settle themselves down only to be roused again by little hands. It is also an easy, inexpensive and adaptable craft that is perfect for cold winter days!
We wanted to add a little desi sparkle to ours so we went with animals found in South Asia and the bright bold glitter colours we associate with big desi weddings, but you can use whatever you have on hand. Any jar, any toy, any sparkle and it will still be so much fun for the kids!
The initial plan was to spray paint the animals gold, but the girls loved how they looked as is especially the little monkey! Since we had gold on hand we did go ahead and paint the lids + base and douse them glitter. The preschooler (3) just likes glitter (lol), but my 1st grader had lots of great questions around each animal and it also brought back memories of some fun times like going for camel rides on the beach when she visited her grandparents in Pakistan.
We hope you guys enjoy this easy fun craft as much as we did!
- Any clean jar – I used a small canning jar
- Any small toy – go through the toy box or hit up the dollar store!
- Hot Glue (glue gun)
- Glitter (about two teaspoons or more depending on your jar size)
- Glycerin/Baby Oil (optional)
Step 1: Clean your jar thoroughly.
Step 2: Paint the lid and/or the base and scatter with glitter for some extra pizzazz.
Step 3: Using a hot glue gun or another strong adhesive secure the toy to the inside of the base (i.e lid) and let dry. We put the jars back on to keep them safe from curious fingers!
Step 4: Fill the jar with water and add a total of two teaspoons of glitter followed by a few drops of glycerin (optional)
Step 5: Tightly shut the jar lid, shake, and let the magic begin!
