Printed Pants: Spring Wardrobe Staple

Once the weather starts to warm up, it’s so much easier to get excited about fashion & dressing up. As much as I enjoy the fall fashion shows, spring is my season! While dresses and skinny jeans are the mainstays of my wardrobe year-round, the printed pants always come out around this time of year.

Printed pants are perfect for everyday wear paired with a tee shirt, or you can dress them up a little for work and add a cardigan or blazer. The best part is, they are always on sale at Old Navy or GAP, and you can find a great print for around $30. My personal favourite is this black and white pair from GAP.

Paired with a button up shirt for work. This look is perfectly acceptable for a creative office like mine. If you work somewhere with a stricter dress code, add a cardigan and wear closed toe shoes.

Paired with a kurta, my favourite look! This is a look that I would easily wear to the office or the grocery store.

A few other ways I’ve styled the same black and white pants over the years.

If you decide to add printed pants to your spring wardrobe, here are three simple tips for styling them:

  1. Pair printed pants with plain tops. If you are super confident with mixing patterns, you can break this rule, but I would still stay with prints in the same colour family as your pants (See the pants and kurta picture above for reference.)
  2. When in doubt, pair your printed pants with a chambray shirt. Button up and tuck in for a sleek look.
  3. Start with safe prints. If you are new to printed pants, a small print in neutral colours is a good way to ease into the trend. Once you’ve mastered styling those, go all out with the prints and colours!
